HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP – A Newburg woman was taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center after she was injured in a late-night joyride through a field.

According to Pennsylvania State Police at Carlisle, Derek Cornell Hupp, 24, Newburg, drove into a field owned by Glenn Myers, 80, at 111 Clayhill Rd. just before 2 a.m. Sunday and drove around the field in circles.

Police said Hupp lost control of his vehicle, and his passenger, Jessi Shrawder, 20, Newburg, was injured. Hupp fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle.

Shrawder walked to her home, where she was taken to Chambersburg Hospital and later transported to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for her injuries.

Hupp returned to his residence later and was brought to Shippensburg Borough Police Department, where he allegedly admitted to intentionally driving through the field and abandoning his vehicle.
