SHIPPENSBURG — A Shippensburg family is displaced after a fire ravaged their single-story home this morning.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:10 this morning to 19 Kail Ave. after a report of flames on the roof.

They believe that the fire began in the attic, according to Kenny Nehf, deputy chief of Vigilante Hose Company.

Homeowner Terry Durff, 62, was at work in Mechanicsburg when the fire began. The homeowner’s son, Jeremy Durff, 29, was at the home with his wife, Brittany Durff, 25, and their 18-month old son, Aaron. Terry Durff’s wife is in Florida visiting family.

Jeremy Durff reported seeing a “wall of smoke” coming from the top of the house as he was getting ready for work. He got his family out of the house and called police.

No one was injured in the blaze. Nehf said the house has “significant” damage.

Mike Rugh, deputy fire marshall with Pennsylvania State Police, Carlisle, will investigate.
