SHIPPENSBURG TOWNSHIP — Arson is responsible for a mobile home fire that occurred around 6 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Valley Drive.

Fire marshals with Pennsylvania State Police in Carlisle and York are still investigating the incident, and more information should be available soon. Trooper Brad Dunham, fire marshal with PSP York, confirmed the fire at the residence in Shippensburg Mobile Estates was arson.

Nobody was home when the fire started, said Lt. Zach Nehf of Vigilant Hose Company No. 1.

Half of the structure was on fire when Vigilant arrived to the scene first, and firefighters put out the fire quickly and stopped it from spreading, Nehf said. However, the mobile home is likely a total loss, said Shippensburg Fire Chief Randy O’Donnell.

In addition to Vigilant, Shippensburg’s Cumberland Valley Hose Company and West End Fire and Rescue, and Chambersburg’s Franklin Fire Company responded. Shippensburg Area Emergency Medical Services and West Shore EMS, Chambersburg, were also on the scene.
