SHIPPENSBURG — A car crash just before 9 a.m. caused thousands in the Shippensburg area to lose power.
According to Shippensburg Police, a medical emergency caused a 68-year-old man to crash his vehicle into a utility pole in front of 512 W. King St.
More than 2,000 Penelec customers lost power. As of 11:45 a.m., a handful of customers in the area are still without power.
While the power company is working to restore power, police are detouring traffic off West King Street onto Lurgan and Cumberland avenues. Officer Lee Kauffman said soon after leaving the scene that it could be several hours before that section of West King Street is reopened.
